Well, it wasn’t HSN or Joy Magnano that is certain.
David Bezborodko who founded Mechanical Mirror Works in 1942 (which later became Mirrotek International LLC), was making triple view mirrors, folding tripleview mirrors and dressing mirrors as early as 1950 and possibly in France pre-WWII. Here are some early ads for Dressing Mirrors and 4 panel mirrors, many of the stores mentioned are no longer in existence: Bamberger’s, Polsky’s, Foley’s, Gertz, Stern’s, Dayton’s, The Hingbee, and many more that no longer carry mirrors or wall furnishings.
Below are more catalogs dating from 1942 to the present of the original Professional Dressing Mirror, with 4 panel mirrors that fold to a regular door mirror. Starting in the 50s and 60s, MMW also added lights and vanity (table top) sizes. Proudly made in the U.S.A since 1942.
